Biography
Juan Carlos Entrambasaguas is a Spanish saxophone performer and music educator interested in Contemporary and Classical Music. He has been developing his artistic activity in Finland, Spain and the United States. Juan Carlos performed as a soloist and with chamber music groups. He taught master classes and played with different Artists at high-performance levels.
Juan Carlos has a Master's degree in Classical Saxophone Performance from the University of the Arts of Helsinki (Sibelius Academy of Finland), studying with saxophonist Joonatan Rautiola. He also holds a Master’s and Bachelor's degree in Saxophone Performance from the Superior Conservatory of Salamanca (Spain), where he studied with Angel Soria and Juan Clemente. “Juan Carlos said: In Finland, I learned a lot about how to merge different styles of music. I know how to incorporate different ‘colors’ in my own playing style. I like to integrate all the best qualities from the Nordic and Northern Europe influences into my own music. I was fortunate to learn from talented teachers about how to improve my teaching and performing skills.’’
He has a wide variety of teaching and group managing experience at the conservatory and university level. He currently holds a teaching position as a woodwind instructor at the Community Music Center in San Francisco. Additionally, he works as a Music Teacher at the Elk Grove School District in northern California. He also serves as the director of an after school band program for the Fairfield School District. Furthermore, he is presently teaching saxophone, clarinet, flute, piano and music theory at the Young Artist Conservatory of Music in Vacaville and NewSongs Music School in Sacramento. Juan Carlos taught several master classes in different European countries such as Norway, Finland, and Spain. Although his work has been primarily in Europe, he has been invited to teach several master classes in the United States. Juan Carlos taught and performed at Shenandoah University in Winchester Virginia. He also taught and performed at the American University of Washington DC. He performed at the Manhattan School of Music of New York. During January of 2024, he also performed a recital with the pianist Casey Dierlam Tse at the International Saxophone Symposium, hosted by the United States Navy Band in Fairfax, VA.
Along his performance trajectory, Juan Carlos has played concerts internationally in Norway, Denmark, Latvia, Andorra, and Croatia, and has performed at the International Saxophone Symposium, American Saxophone Academy, Manhattan School of Music, the Helsinki Music Center, Nordic Saxophone Festival, and the University of Zagreb. He has played as a soloist with the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra, Youth Orchestra of Salamanca (Spain), Helsinki Saxophone Orchestra, 'SaxibA Ensemble', '2.13 Sax Ensemble' and 'Nyky Ensemble'. He has also attended many workshops with well-known musicians, such as Claude Delangle, Arno Bornkamp, Timothy McAllister, Otis Murphy, Marcus Weiss, Vincent David, Jean-Denis Michat, to name a few. Additionally, his research on the fusion of Spanish flamenco and Arabic music reflects his commitment to exploring diverse international musical traditions.
